Review: B.P.R.D. Hell on Earth: Russia #5

images-1
This issue finishes up the latest B.P.R.D. Mini series, Johann Kraus and Kate Corrigan finish up their dealing in Russia. Kate and Kraus are both changed by the experience. With Kraus taking a much more active role in dealing with the supernatural this series, and Kate being forced onto the sidelines with no knowledge of what the plan has been the entire operation. Things appear to be strained between the two. Hell on Earth: Russia, has introduced us to an interesting new character. First seen in an Abe Sapien mini, Iosif Nichayko the director of Russian Occult Bureau.

He has shown through this series to be a very driven and more than likely insane, his presence will have a lasting effect on Kraus going forward.

This final issue wraps up nicely and gives us glimpses into future plots, most seeming to deal with Kraus, and one with a character that I don't believe has been seen since the nineteen forties. We have definitely not seen the last of Iosif and his Russian bureau.

Tyler Crook has taken over the art chores from Guy Davis, and has been doing a fantastic job. The art in B.P.R.D has always been one of my favorite things about the book, and Crook has effortlessly moved into the artistic driving seat. Mignola and John Arcudi have been telling stories in this universe for years now, and each new mini series still manages to find something fresh and new to bring to the table, this arc is no exception. This new para-dime of Hell on Earth is something new and exciting, and I am glad to be here to witness it.
