On the Cover: Sean Phillips

cover-large
Sean Phillips is the consummate artist. a 25 year veteran in the comics industry, phillips has provided work for 2000ad, WildC.A.T.S., Marvel Zombies, most of Ed Brubaker's creator owned work and a whole host of others. Brubaker, unlike many of his contemporaries, is dedicated to improving his craft, taking lessons and experimenting with style. His covers reflect this, and while they lean towards a painted aesthetic, there is a real sense of progress.

Phillips perfectly captures the tone of Brubaker's stories. This cover is as sexy as the story inside it.

Phillip's use of space and colour in the below cover creates a visual flow, and alows for the logo work to do it's job without getting in the way of the artwork.

The covers for Fatale are delightfully pulpy. The low key lighting sets the noir flavour perfectly.

The covers for incognito are my favourite work of Phillips'. The high contrast lighting effects and muted palette create exactly the right tone for the book.
