I am not sure if Tom Morello had any hand in the plotting or writing of this book. If no, then this guy is really talented. Not only is he a gifted and successful musician, he also knows how to write comics. I came into this knowing nothing about the book. But when I was done, I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of reading it. I love stories set in a dystopia, and this comic made very good use of that.
This issue is rather villain centric too as more than half of it deals with the origin of the ultra creepy villain called Don Barabas.
Probably, no.. I am quite sure that this is my favorite from this bunch of reviews! I enjoyed this comic so much even though I cam late to the party. I find the concept very original and exciting. Very fresh and well done. I get a Spider-Man/ Invincible vibe when I read this and probably, that’s one of the highest compliment I can give to a comic. The art on this comic is awesome. I am reminded of Phil Noto when I first looked at it. I think it complements the feel that the writer, Tim Seeley, is going for. And speaking of which, Tim Seeley (I’m not terribly familiar with his books) is fast becoming a favorite of mine.
I love how Zayne Carrick, the protagonist of this comic, a Jedi that is not really your usual Jedi, is smack dab in the middle of the Mandalorian Wars. A pacifist by nature, and originally treated by his peers as a bumbling comic relief, I love how he is the total opposite of the militaristic Mandas. I wish this comic would fully explore the history/ origins of The Mandalorians. I am a big fan of Bobba and Janggo Fett and the Republic Commando series so I look at this series with keen interest.
In my previous review of a Star Wars, I revealed my love for the Star Wars expanded universe. And moving on to this comic, I am very happy to be treated with more! This is a whole new take on the Star Wars mythos. It’s fresh. It’s exciting. It’s new. A secret agent, Agent Cross is the Star Wars Universe's answer to James Bond. Its a detective story in a mission impossible type setting in the Lucasverse. If I had any say in this comics production, I would name it: Star Wars: Noir. That’s exactly the word...the perfect word that I would use to describe this comic. When I saw the name of the writer, I wasn’t really surprised why I enjoyed it so much. John Ostrander. You wouldn’t go wrong with his name in a story like this. Down and dirty/ gritty is his specialty.
This week, Dan Hipp makes Batman chummy with his rogue's gallery, Jeff Lemire talks about how awesome he is, Mike Choi does Jeff Smith's RASL, Kurtis J Wiebe and Riley Rossmo talk horror, Jeremy Bastion is insane as always, Chrissie Zullo does X-Factor, Dave Johnson goes to space man and Michael Avon Oeming draws Jonah Hex.
