Review:Broken Pieces #3

We’re starting to get some real answers here as our patchwork man begins to remember who and what he is or rather was. I like that it’s being pieced together here and there and not all at once but rather as he is experiencing new events. It seems more like a natural thing to have happen rather than convenient.

Richard has also met and made some new friends who seem nonplussed by his appearance. Granted he wants to find his wife and doesn’t have time to spend with these guys the way they would like him too. Though I think circumstances will find him becoming not just allies with these people. After all they have a common enemy in Trinion.

I’m just afraid that his association with these people could them all killed. After all Mr. Ludas has Dr. Adams, Richards wife, working for him and his troops who had their rear ends handed to them have already reported back about being defeated by this monster and that the lab was destroyed.

Poor Richard he has some hard choices to make and he is remembering more and more about who he is and was that he’s having a hard time handling it. Plus he had little Sophie follow him when he was ambushed by Ludas’ men. She better be alright, she’s just a child after all and a cute one at that.

To me this is a modern day futuristic telling of Frankenstein’s monster only it’s harder to tell who the monster here is. I do like that Earth’s atmosphere has been irrevocably damaged and there is no cure in sight. It smacks of things we know of today such as Global Warming and our raping of the natural world. This could be our near future, or at least one possible version of it. I think that is part of the appeal here too that this isn’t as far fetched as one might possibly think.

I’m super impressed with the complexity of the story, the characterization going on and the books pacing. Plus the art is pretty darn good too, complimenting the words nicely. If Aspen can keep this on schedule it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Have you ever wanted to explore the Soulfire universe but thought it was a daunting challenge to jump into? Aspen is making it easy for you to get acquainted with the Soulfire universe before volume four comes out. Already out is the Primer which catches the reader up to date on what has happened thus far. However to take it a step further here is the first one shot that allows you to get to know the key players.

This is a great time to explore the Soulfire universe and by the time volume four number one hits stands you’ll know everything you need to. I can’t think of many other companies that have gone out of their way to welcome new readers in such an easy going and in my humble opinion delightful manner.

This issue is called Hope because the kingdom has been in a state upheaval and the previous king murdered. It is time for the Queen to find a new King and in the arena a new King shall be found. When it comes to the young upstart and the Queens old beau she wishes Dex to yield to the child. He does what the love of his heart asks but is that the right choice?

This tournament has given the people Hope that a better time is coming. After death, destruction and betrayal giving them hope is the best the Queen can do. Though the young upstart is impetuous and power hungry I am not sure that he is ready to lead these people in a direction they need to go.

Anyway Aspen has done something incredibly good here and it really does help one to understand the universe going forward. This is the perfect time to try it, it is completely new reader friendly and it’s also rather welcoming. J.T. Krul writes some amazing stuff in the Soulfire world and the art is simply beautiful.

Review: Fathom: Kiani #0-1

Wow, why have I not been in tune to this world? I am really happy that I decided to review these issues and ventured into Michael Turner’s world of Fathom. I found the characters and story engaging and inviting. New readers can certainly read these issues even without reading the first volume.

Review: Charasmagic #5

Completing my round of all new comics for this weeks review, I was very impressed with this book. The story is no slouch, set in a world of magic, it tells the story of a select few warriors to protect it from a power mad schemer.

I love also how the writer weaves romantic tension in the story. Something that seems to be forgotten in most comics these days. The art is just beautiful! So pretty to look at! I am a lover of classic comics

Review: Fathom #4

A hot young marine biologist? Check. Strange underwater environments? Check. Mad scientist? Check. Scott Lobdell and Alex Konat? Double check. That’s pretty much every ingredient for a great comic. Fathom, created by the late Michael Turner, is in it’s forth volume, not including the myriad of spin offs, and it’s pretty easy to see why.

Issue 4 sees Aspen Mathews throw down with a bunch of bad guys in a church in an ocean under the Sahara desert.
