Brian Wood to Marvel

Marvel released a teaser at Fan Expo Canada indicating writer Brian Wood picking up work at marvel. This comes at a crossroads in Wood’s career, with Northlanders being canceled, and his apparent drop from the Supergirl book. It’s fairly clear DC don’t won’t him, which boggles my mind. If Marvel are smart, however, they can use him to great effect. Here’s how.

Firstly, the teaser seems to indicate some sort of Wolverine related book:

I think the best place for him in the wolverine related ‘verse would be with x-23. Wood has proven time and time again that he can write great drama, particularly with young characters. X-23 would be a great character for him to sink his teeth into. Add Kiden Nixon and Hellion and you’ve got a great book. If Wood does go to X-23, then Marvel should put Margarie Lui on Daken, or better yet, the Runaways. perfect time to relaunch that title as well.

Brian Wood doing work for Marvel also gives them a great opportunity to push there Icon line, which publishes good stuff, but there’s not much of it, certainly nothing in the area of what Vertigo publish. if Wood brought Northanders and may be a few other titles to Icon, that would give the Imprint new life - Let’s get Brubaker kicking out a few more jams and give Jeff Parker a crack at the creator-owned stuff, and you’ve got a great little imprint.

for those new to Wood’s work, I highly recomend Demo (Vertigo), Local (Oni) and Northlanders (Vertigo). Plus everything else he’s ever done.

what do you guys think?
